The Joy of giving
by Ptr. Hella Nimes
There are times in our lives when we begin to understand the true purpose of life and how it affects others. The thrill of giving is one of these feelings. It provides incredible pleasure that can only be felt but is difficult to describe. And the good news is that sharing never results in a loss.
As Proverbs 11:24 says, “One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.”
It is not all about money or wealth when it comes to sharing. It is about being kind, helpful, selfless, making sacrifices, serving others, and loving. When we do good for others, we are filled with joy. “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” Jesus said.
We, the Evangel Family Church Ajuy, were so blessed and inspired as God used us to be the channel of blessings to reach out to these 232 young souls, about 10% of whom are adults, who became the recipients of this year’s Gift Giving and Feeding ministry. The mission was made possible by the unwavering spiritual support of our Senior Pastors, Rev. Benjamin Chavez, and Rev. Lina Chavez, as well as inspired young professionals, committed church leaders, and active youth volunteers.
Through the Holy Spirit’s guidance and the great provision of God Almighty. The gift-giving and feeding ministry activities are scheduled to last a week. We began at the EFC-Nasidman outpost on the island. 68 children were extremely fortunate to receive their Jollibee burger and spaghetti. With a slew of treats and fruits. Our journey to the island was not easy because of the strong wind, which made some of our companions slightly wet from the splash of water.
The season was known locally as ‘Amihan,’ or the Northeast Monsoon, especially during December. But the Lord brought us safely there and back. The next day, another outstation, and so on until we arrived at the base of the mountain. We were greeted by happy, innocent faces. Surprisingly, we ran into two Aeta boys who were siblings.
We first share the Word of God with them before we give them what we have brought. As we’ve done with the other outposts. They are all in agreement with what the Bible says and are eager to accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and personal Savior. God is worthy of all praise. The service concludes with songs of praise to God, and we leave full of joy and satisfaction.
Finally, the most important lesson we’ve learned from doing this ministry is that it doesn’t matter how much money or resources you spent to make them happy. But how secure their souls will be when Christ returns. The joy of giving is simply a result of God’s love in us. That even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we can advance God’s Kingdom. We anticipate a bountiful harvest of souls before the end of 2022. May God continue to bless EFC-Ajuy. God is worthy of all praise and glory.
