Mambayaan is coastal barangay of Balingsag, Misamis Oriental. It is one of the four barangays to the east of Balingsag having fine sandy beaches. People live on agricultural crops and fishing. As 2010 entered, the barangay grows its population to 2,649 with numbers of youth coming in to attend a high school and now a senior high school. As its economy rises and transforms through the years, one vital part of the community was left out. There was no christian church.
EFC-Mambayaan
In the year 2014, christians gathered in a home to fellowship since there was no church in the area. Soon after, it has grown into five families and continued to grow as months passed. This gathering later became Evangel Family Church Mambayaan with the help of Pastors Ronilo and Mary Joy Tapal from EFC-Balingasag. From a home church, EFC-Mambayaan members built their own church building. The church celebrated its memorable 1st year anniversary on February 15, 2015 with Rev. Andrew Kwong and Rev. Rowena Kwong who graced the festive event. It was during this anniversary that Pastor Brian Calalin, a Mambayaanon, was installed as EFC Mambayaan’s pastor. Today, EFC Mambayaan headed by Ptr. Brian Calalin with his wife, Sis. Nova and faithful members hand in hand carry on God’s ministry in the barangay. Ptr. Brian’s vision for the church is to raise leaders for church planting. As he quote with full faith 1 Samuel 12:24 which says, “Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart, for consider how great things he hath done for you.”
At present, the young EFC Mambayaan has grown not just in numbers but in quality Christian members. Within two years, it made echoes within and in nearby barangays through its outreach activities. Saturday kids classes (a feeding program with Bible stories and activities for kids and young teens), a mini concert, and home visitations are some of the activities done outside the four corners of the church. On the other hand, fellowships of men, women, music team and youths, and leaders training every Friday are activities done to cater to the church members’ spiritual needs aside from regular church services like Bible studies, prayer meetings and Sunday services. Nevertheless, like any other young and growing church, EFC Mambayaan went through tough times too. But Ptr. Brian Calalin’s encouragement to members is , “A ministry that is from the Lord will never wither and fall. It will always survive and thrive.”
