Ormoc is derived from Ogmok, an old Visayan term for lowland on depressed plain.

The locals of this City are called Ormocanons with most being Cebuano speakers. Today, Ormoc is a first class city in the Province of Leyte. It is the first non-provincial city of the Philippines. According to 2010 census, it has a total population of 191,976 people. Ormoc is the economic, cultural, commercial and transportation hub of Western Leyte. Ormoc City is an independent component city, no subject to regulation from Provincial Government of Leyte.


Rev Renante SubongThe Evangel Family Church – Ormoc City was planted in 1997. Five years later, the pioneering pastor resigned to continue his study. Another pastor assumed the vacancy but lasted only for two years. Without a pastor, the church closed.

In April 2005, Pastor Renante Subong was tasked to reopen the Ormoc Church together with one of the ECME graduates as an assistant. However, family problems and financial difficulties prompted the assistant to cease his commitment leaving Pastor Renante alone to continue the ministry for a couple of years.

Today, Evangel Family Church – Ormoc City is growing and with present membership averaging around 85 adults. The weekly activities consist of worship service every Sunday from 9:00 am to 11:30 am., weekly Bible studies at various locations, cell groups and outreach evangelism. The Church is currently renting a conference hall in OCCI Bldg. within the City.

Evangel Family Church- Ormoc has five (5) satellite churches namely: EFC-Albuera, EFC-Labrador, EFC- Brgy. Airport, EFC- Dolores and EFC- Montebello.

Yearly activities include Youth Camp, Discipleship Training, film showing/Mini – Crusade and Sectional gatherings.
