Marahan is located in Marilog under the third district of Davao City. About 54 kilometers away from the city, its hilly region is filled with trees contributing to its cool winds. Matigsalug, Obo and Manubo tribes inhabit the region. A government hospital was built in Kibalang, Barangay Marilog in 2015 to provide health care services to indigenous people. Some LGU’s have also extended their help by installing Biosand Water Filter in some households. These development brought ease and support to various tribal communities in Marahan.
EFC – MARAHAN
In 1999, Deserie and Mivelyn Layson were sent to the foggy mountains of Marilog District as they responded to the call of mission toward the tribal community. Evangel Family Church Marahan was the first built church in Tribal located exactly at Marahan, Marilog District, Davao City. The church started with five members who also let them connect to their hydro-powered generator as the area was still holistically undeveloped. The two single ladies were then led to the remote area of Maluan, an extreme extension of Marilog District and established the second church of the Tribal. They moved from one place to another, seeking for more people to be reached by the gospel of God. In this year 2022, Pastors Mivelyn and Patricio Margate, together with their two children, Shekinah and Patrick Ivan, Evangel Family Church Marahan is celebrating its 22nd year in serving the Lord God Almighty and continuing to extend the works of God in the lives of the indigenous people. EFC Marahan also had the privilege of hosting Rev. Dr. Robert Lim to dedicate their new church building to the Lord back in Jan 11, 2020.
Church Planting Ministry
Tribal ministry currently has 43 active CPM churches that are being led by pastors and volunteer workers. Evangel Family Church had not only reached Marilog District but also began to work in Arakan Valley, Bukidnon and President Roxas in Cotabato. Tribal ministry had witnessed the faithfulness and total goodness of God in the ministry and in everyone’s life through living miracles of physical healing, spiritual growth, improved living and holistic transformation.
In Partnership with the Tribal Missions Foundation, Inc., there are already five batches of volunteers that finished the six-month course Tribal Workers Intensive Training (T.W.I.T.) at the Evangel Tribal Training Center in Arakan Valley.
For the past 22 years, JECPP has extended its help in the Marilog District through medical missions. Evangel Family Church Davao work hand in hand with Tribal Pastors and volunteers to conduct regular medical missions services.
