Evangel Davao conducts Seminar on ‘Effective Parenting in a Defective World’

‘Children model their parents’

This was the core message taught during the one-day parenting seminar conducted at Evangel Family Church – Davao last August 13, 2011 facilitated by Skip and Kerry Jeffries through a video series taught by Rev. Chip Ingram.

A total of 25 parents were blessed, refreshed and gained insight on how to raise their children with confidence that their children will win the battle over the pressure in this world they live in.

Nine powerful topics were discussed which include: how to raise positive kids in a negative world, building relationships that bond, how to develop your child’s full potential, God’s process for teaching obedience, how to disciple your child effectively, punishment versus discipline, words that discipline, five smooth stones for parenting; and when all else fails.

Speaker Chip Ingram said that the principle of modeling can be the most effective way to teach the children in this present world. “What parent are doing and what children see their parent doing are retained in their mind many times more than what parent are telling them to do” Ingram said.

Ingram also warned parents to monitor their children’s exposure to media. “Everything that they saw in television, read in printed materials, and heard in radio or any other media can be righteous in their eyes and in their minds” he said.

He added that parents can fight the influence of media to the minds of young children by modeling them on how to imitate Jesus and be holy like Jesus. Sister Cres Rosolada, a parent, said that the seminar is an eye opener to us as parents. “We learned that as parent we played a vital role in the kind of future our children will have when they grow up. Our tasks are not that simple,” Cres said.

Though the one-day seminar is kind of short, the participants however, are thankful to Pastor Wee and Pastor Christine for conducting such a wonderful seminar for us all.
